Ticked Off & Fed Up

Posted by Michelle on Apr 9, 2009 in This N That

All of you rude people who were never taught manners by mommy & daddy or maybe you are just to self-centered to care, listen up.

Movie Etiquette Guide

Shoes

If you’ve ever been told that your feet stink, if you suspect your feet may stink, if you’ve even smelled stinky feet, leave your damn shoes on! It is very offensive to those around you but we won’t bother to ask who stinks, because you wouldn’t fess up anyway.

Candy wrappers

Listen, I understand that you feel it is best to slowly, slowly tear the package open during loud parts of the movie but has it ever occurred to you that the wrapper is only inches from the person in front of you? PLEASE, go ahead and open it all at once. However, after you open your M&M’s DO NOT shove your fat fingers into the package to get out each and every piece of candy. Just pour out a few in your chubby hand and then shove them into your mouth. Each time you jam your fat fingers into the package, the person in front of you is distracted. I swear that some people just try to be as loud as possible.

Popcorn

There was a couple eating popcorn so loudly last week that I TRIED to eat popcorn with my mouth open and still couldn’t be as loud. I ended up moving to the other side of my husband instead of directly in front of them. All you have to do is chew with your mouth closed! Again, something mommy & daddy should have taught you.

Kids

Now that YOU are the mommy or daddy, teach your kids to STOP KICKING MY SEAT.

Talking

SHUT UP! Last night during the movie I found out from a couple 2 rows back that Randy’s girlfriend Jennifer was cheating on him with Mark while Randy was in Europe. Poor Randy was in Europe 4 days before Jennifer joined him and is still oblivious to her antics.

Also, if your friend, significant other or spouse really needs you to loudly explain the entire movie, maybe it is best that you wait for the DVD, is it really worth all that trouble? I am very guilty of leaning over to WHISPER something to my husband but I promise you, no one else around me can hear and I even hesitate to do that.

My Plea

I live by the golden rule, I have taught my children to live by the golden rule. Why can’t people be more aware of their surroundings and more considerate of others? How hard is it? I don’t want to give the impression that I have zero tolerance. Believe me, at least 2 of the above happens to us each time we go see a movie. I just can’t take it anymore! I want to have a good time and I want YOU to have a good time too but just think about the people around you and make an effort to be courteous.

The Solution?

Ok, now that I got that out of my system, what I am really looking for is a solution. In reality I would never address any one of these issues with the person. Well, that isn’t entirely true. I have been known to politely ’shhh’ someone but how do you all handle it? Do you move? What if the theater is crowded? Do you tolerate it? Anything would be of help. Until then, see you on the back row!

Hey Obama, Learn Handshake Etiquette

Posted by Michelle on Apr 4, 2009 in Politics

I hate to shake hands because I am a germaphobe. In a business setting, I will shake hands if it is absolutely necessary but panic until I can wash my hands. Otherwise, I will conveniently have something in my right hand to avoid it.

My husband and my dad both know handshake etiquette. In my adult life I have noticed that 99% of men do not know this rule. When meeting a woman, the man waits for her to extend her hand. It is up to her if she wants to shake hands.

Obama is clearly oblivious to this rule. When he met the Queen of England he offered his hand first breaking the handshake etiquette rule. Then pulled a second no-no and cupped her hand with his left while shaking her hand. Doesn’t everyone know that you do not touch the Queen?

He should have done a lot more research before he embarrassed the entire country on his first international trip. I guess we are lucky that she didn’t get a high five or his infamous fist bump.

Obama gave the Queen of England an iPod?

Posted by Michelle on Apr 1, 2009 in Politics

I would hate to be Michelle Obama, her husband gives crappy gifts. Sometimes it isn’t the thought that counts or maybe his gift giving is extra special because he lets those 2 little girls pick out the gifts.

I am having a hard time believing that obama training pants doesn’t have some adviser somewhere that would tell him that an iPod is not an acceptable gift to the Queen of England. Oh, but wait! It was loaded with songs and had accessories so that may be ok. Except for the fact that she ALREADY HAD ONE. I can’t wait to find out if there was an inscription!

Idiot.

Hippie half

Non-hippie half
I do not approve of PETA. I am anti-liberal. I shave! I’ve never participated in a sit in, love it or protest. I don’t like incense or the Grateful Dead. I am not anti-war and I think global warming is a crock!

Liberals say GOP ’stripping out the good stuff’

Posted by Michelle on Feb 2, 2009 in Politics

This week, the Senate will vote on President Obama’s economic stimulus plan—with historic investments in green jobs, health care, and education to get our economy back on track.

But right now, the stimulus doesn’t have the votes to pass.1 Republicans and conservative Democrats are teaming up to strip out the good stuff—college loan assistance, health research, tax cuts for poor folks, and more—in favor of more tax cuts for corporations.2 If they don’t get their way, they’ll block the plan.

Last week, not a single Republican in the House voted for Obama’s plan—they didn’t think voters would ever hold them accountable. That’s why we’re asking folks to pledge now to help run ads after the vote letting the public know where key senators—both Republican and Democrat—came down on the bill. We need to get started now, so politicians and the media know their constituents are paying attention.

President Obama’s plan isn’t perfect, but it’s mostly pretty great:

* Millions of green jobs to double our clean energy production in three years.3
* Affordable health care for the unemployed.4
* The biggest investment in education since World War II—enough to “avert literally hundreds of thousands of teacher layoffs.”5

This is just the opposite of the bank bailout.

But senators from both parties think their constituents aren’t paying attention or are confused about what’s at stake. That’s why they need to know MoveOn members are ready to run ads telling voters whose side they’re on.

If they vote to support the recovery plan, we’ll run ads letting voters know they stood with Obama to create badly needed jobs. And if they oppose it, we’ll make sure voters know that they’re standing in the way of economic help for the rest of us.

Inside The Mind Of The Left

Posted by Michelle on Jan 30, 2009 in Politics

A liberal friend (is that an oxymoron?) forwarded this email to me yesterday. I thought everyone may get a kick out of it.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I’m James. I’m a MoveOn member, dad to two teenagers, and, until recently, I had a pretty good job in construction. But the company I worked for lost a lot of projects when the economy tanked, and I got laid off, without much notice.

So I wanted to write to ask for your help. Not help for me, but for all the folks who are out of a job or otherwise struggling in this recession. Let me explain.

President Obama’s economic recovery plan just passed in the House—it’s got billions of dollars for education, mass transit, and clean energy. But what really gets me is that not a single Republican voted for it, despite all the efforts by President Obama to reach across the aisle. If the same thing happens in the Senate, it won’t pass. But millions of families like mine need it to pass—it could put me, my former coworkers, and millions of other Americans back to work—and turn this economy around.

We need to get some Republicans on board. MoveOn has ads ready to go in key states—states where Republican senators are deciding right now whether or not to support Obama’s plan. But time is running short. I just chipped in, and I hope you can help, too. Click here to contribute:

A new stimulus might mean a new job for me—weatherizing homes or constructing green affordable housing. It’d give my kids’ school some much needed funding. And it could mean real investments in mass transportation to ease traffic and cut emissions.

This is a big moment, both for my family and for families around the country. If thousands of us act, we can get these swing senators to change their votes. But we’ll need to do it fast—the vote could come as early as next week. I hope you can help out.

Thanks for being such a great community. And thanks for all you do.

–James Spitzer, your fellow MoveOn member
